Velvet Goldmine
Inspiration... This past weekend I watched a movie called "Velvet Goldmine" with Christan Bale, Ewan MeGregor and Toni Collette. If you haven't seen the movie, you should - it's about glam rock in the 1970's. I LOVED IT!!! It made me realize that life should be about your passions and journeys that you embark upon. The movie is a reflection back onto the past lives of a group of individuals who were involved in the Glam Rock lifestyle to the present (at the time of the film) when these individuals have moved onto new paths within their lives. Leaving only the memories and past experiences to carry with them into the future. Memories and real life adventure is amazing!
At the ripe age of 25, I feel like I have so many new adventures ahead of me, but that I have also already gained and created a memorable past. Like moving to the San Francisco from New Jersey with no job or a real plan, just the drive to do so. And after two years of working and finishing school - moving to New York and now, Miami for an exciting oppurtunity. I'm going to embrace these journeys and continue to take risks so that I can look back and know I pursued a life lived. Just go see the movie - it's great!

My Binder
I'm currently looking for a job, and needed something to show off some of the work I have done, and can do. Because I don't have a design or journalism background, I wondered what this binder/portfolio would look like, and what items I would use to support its purpose. And this is how it came out. I pulled reports I completed in school, such as Integrated Marketing Plans, work I completed at previous employers: Persona (marketing research) and a news letter I created for a prior company.
This is a "Persona" I created based on Organic Inc. Directors. I interviewed five directors at the company and complied the data to create this persona. I took the information I learned on each interview to find trends with each individual.
This is a 40 page Marketing Plan to take American Apparel aboard to Chile, Santiago. With a team of 5 people, myself included, we developed a six month integrated marketing plan to open up an American Apparel store in South America.
The IMC Plan was specifically my part and I selected and researched the methods and media outlets we would use to market American Apparel in Chile.
Go Girl Energy Drink is a a new kind of energy drink started on the West Coast. This report highlights the company and their competitive advantage (cause marketing and a niche market; woman) with a focus on strategic planning for growth.
My previous employer, TRG, implemented a new health initiative team to promote healthier lifestyles. As a part of that team, I worked to create the following quarterly news letter. I wrote stories on team players journey to lose weight, donating their hair to children with cancer and activities in the community.
I hope this portfolio can and will display my experience and skill level, as well as my passion for marketing. YAY!

Decisions to live by...
Regret is a word I don't like to use, nor do I believe in such a word. To regret is to "feel sad, repentant, or disappointed over (something that has happened or been done, esp. a loss or missed oppurtunity), (dictiontary.com). I say why should I regret a decision or the lose of a missed oppurtunity... I say move forward -> and take the experience(s) you have gained to make a better decision or even better, to grow and appreciate the oppurtunity you've received from that loss and or bad decision to discover a little something new about yourself.
Don't get me wrong, I don't believe we need to suck up every bad decision in our life, but we do need to sometimes acknowledge that the only way to change what a decision has done or how it has affected our lives is to move ahead. And that regret is not the answer to the solution. Regret holds us back from pushing ahead similar to a logic problem. To solve the problem, we must use what we know, what we've learned and of course the facts to see clearly and move forward. Worrying too much on the problem will only dig ourselves deeper, similar to the effect of worrying or harping too much on what is done, and not enough on what can be done to move forward.
I was inspired to write about the word regret because I recently made a decision that has altered my life; I moved from San Francisco to New Jersey (where I'm originally from) for a whole bunch of reasons. Some of those reasons where wrong and some were right, but nevertheless, I made a decision to move. At first I had regret, and then I realized how could I have regret for something I decided, and that's because I lost site of the solution. I need not focus on what would have happened if I hadn't moved, but rather what will happen now that I have moved, and how I can form what happens by making decisions with good intentions and wishes. I don't live with woulda/shoulda/coulda's because my life is what I make of it, and I've made a mistake or a decision I need to see the problem through until I have reached the solution.

CHANGE
Today is a new day, and no I'm not quoting Celine, but rather referring to this historic event that has happened on November 4th, 2008... Barack Obama is the new President of the United States.
What an exciting time. This is truly a new kind of America. What changes will we see next within the country.
One thing I know for sure is that I'm extremely impressed with the turnout of voters, and individuals concerned/involved with this election. I hope that Americans continue to stay involved in the politics of our country to ensure that the individuals elected into all offices/seats maintain and keep in mind why their in office... that is to communicate and become the voice of all Americans.
